A Slovakian woman will appear in Virginia court in May in connection with a cannabis find at the weekend.

On Saturday (April 20), an intelligence-led operation by gardaí led to a drug seizure of cannabis herb worth an estimated €10,500 from an address in the Cross-Mullagh area.

A Belturbet man has been sentenced to serve life in prison for the murder of a Limerick father-of-two in an attack during which he slit his victim’s throat and stabbed him over 40 times.
Gerard Manning (33) of Upper Gerald Griffin Street, in Limerick, originally from Erne Hill, Belturbet, had pleaded not guilty to murdering 54-year-old Martin Purcell on dates between September 28 and 30, 2011.

The prosecution services are still ascertaining the severity of the charges to be brought against 34-year-old Aisling McCarthy Brady, a native of Moher, near Lavey. However a spokesperson for the Middlesex County District Attorney office told The Anglo-Celt that once court proceedings are fully instigated, it could still take up to 12-months before the case is heard. Mrs McCarthy Brady denies the charges.

A Cavan nanny has been charged in connection with the death of a baby girl in her care over in Boston. Thirty-four-year-old Aisling McCarthy Brady from a family-of-nine and native of Moher, near Lavey, had been living in the US for more than a decade. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency have said though that McCarthy Brady had overstayed her 90-day authorisation to stay in the US after entering the country in 2002.
